Battle Field 3 Pax East Demo Impressions.

At Pax East along with other Ea Gun Club members got to see new footage of Battle Field 3. I stood in line for about an hour something that for the past 3 years of going to conventions have yet to ever do. That should show you how much i wanted to see what was inside the booth. So I finally get my chance to go into the booth and there are 4 rows of chairs, in the front a big screen, to the left of the screen a desk with a man sitting behind a computer, and to the right of the screen a guy holding a mic. From what I was told from other people that got to see the presentation before me that this was all video being show, just extended trailers. As the presentation started I found this not to be true.

In actuality this was the game being played in sections for us in real time. I know lots of people are going to call bullshit but I bet I'm one of the few people who actually took there eyes off the screen and watched the guy at the computer. Not only did I see his hands and mouse moving according to the action on the screen I have watched the first Fault Line trailer 5 to 6 times and know it like the back of my hand. First instance I noticed something different is when they got out the truck. He looked to his right deeper then he did on the trailer. Second instance I noticed when they where all huddled looking at the map he moved his head back and forth. The next was down the alley where the dog was and instead of turning to the dog like he does in the trailer he looked to the right. When they get into the building where the light is shining through the windows he looked up at the windows down at the grown went up the stairs and turned around something he didn't do in the fault line trailer. Keep in mind while all this is going on I keep taking glances at his hands and yes he is moving the mouse. Now in the parking lot after all the action takes place he jumps behind the van in the fault line trailer, here he walked around the van and got behind a car. Rocket still came from the second floor but instead of the guy on the right on the balcony it came from the second guy in the middle balcony on the second floor. Even though this is the single player and its going to be the major meat and potatoes I am still excited and impressed with the way the game moves and looks. It really brings you into the game similar to the way Medal of Honor did with its story.

Now it cuts off and goes to another section on the rooftop which is the Fault line 2 trailer that was just released. Here they are on the roof and are getting sniped from an unknown location and soon realize its a 50 cal sniper rifle and its coming from the building directly across from them. They all go prone and while they are trying to make their way to the other side you can see chunks of the building getting chipped away by sniper fire. They make their way to the edge of the roof and they throw you the rocket launcher and say you are the best shot take em out. then they all get up and start firing at the building while you take your shot with the rocket launcher. The whole front part of the building falls off and while they are talking you can see pieces still falling and you can see empty floors from where the side of the building was.

This part fades out and you are back on the street getting ready to cross a bridge and as you get on the bridge you can see the enemy making its way down the street and under the bridge you are on. So he starts firing and as he is firing and picking targets off I again look at his mouse and he is firing way on the left mouse button. Not only to add to the fact it was him playing he shot pieces of the bridge off on purpose to show us the damage that it would take and how the bullets would interact. as he makes his way across he has to climb in the back of the jeep and start firing away from a mounted gun on the vehicle. Once again I peep over to see if he is still firing with the mouse and he is. This part of the demo ends with an earthquake and the building falling towards you and the screen goes blank.
Overall I was very pleased with what I saw. I like others have put this game as one of our most anticipated games for this year. I just hope that the console versions and the multiplayer version of the game can live up to what we have been shown.
